Wound Information
SCOPE OF THE PROBLEM
The population is aging! This means that the increasing number of frail elderly people will result in more difficult to heal wounds. The number of diabetics is also on the rise. They are prone to diabetic foot ulcerations due to the lack of sensation in their feet.
Once unattended or inappropriately cared for, it can lead to serious consequences in its progress, as it resists healing and worsens. Then there is the risk of infection which may be life threatening at times. The death of Christopher Reed (quadriplegic from a horse riding accident) from complications of a pressure ulcer called attention to the seriousness of wounds.
Each year in the United States millions of Americans are affected by some form of skin ulcers. This results in untold suffering for the patient and their family.
Hence the demand and pressure is mounting to provide expert wound care.
